520 3 _aRoutine microbiological examination was conducted as part of the regular procedure for the monitoring of bottled water. A total of seven hundred ninety (790) bottles, representing one hundred fifty eight (158) sets, were analyzed from January 1998 up to October 1999. These samples were examined for Heterotrophic Plate Count (HPC), Coliforms Most Probable Number (MPN)/100 mL, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Streptococcus faecalis. Results showed that twelve (12) out of seven hundred ninety (790) bottles or 1.52% of the total number of samples analyzed were found to contain Pseudomonas aeruginosa. All samples were found to be negative for Streptococcus faecalis and Escherichia coli. The results indicated that BFADs evaluation process, which includes routine monitoring, proves to be an effective strategy in assuring manufacturers compliance with the bureaus regulations. (Author)
