520 3 _aComprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) is a detailed assessment of an elderly patient, which can be performed in any clinical setting, to assess the elderly patient's medical, psychological, environmental and functional status in addition to the usual medical history and physical examinations. CGA expands scope of interest to include caregiver and environment and emphasizes on optimization of function and increase in active life expectancy. In several studies, it has been concluded that it improved medical diagnosis, cognition, function and reduced costs and mortality rate. Various assessment tools are used in CGA. In addition to the history and physical examination, social, functional and cognitive assessments are done for patients. The older patients may fail, hearing loss, visual loss and other geriatric syndromes as they consider these symptoms as part of the normal aging or embarrassing problems.
