_aCounselling of survivors of child sexual abuse / _cMaria Fidelis C. Manalo |
| 520 | 3 | _aThe doctor as a counsellor may need special skills in helping counsel survivors of child sexual abuse. It is also imperative that the doctor knows the key stages of the Healing Process to guide the patient. This includes remembering, crisis times, breaking the silence, grief, anger and resolution to moving on. Bass and Davis book clearly sets the frame on dealing with the subject matter. Physicians must realize that the problem exists and at an alarming proportion. Consider that one of 100 children is abused physically, sexually, or emotionally by their caretaker in the Philippines. The psychological burden on the victim is too much so that even physicians can help the victim go through the problem and offer some precious help to heal this insult borne by all of the victims. Physicians then must arm themselves pretty well to handle cases like these. | |
